Check the fibre composition
Cotton is widely used because it feels natural and breathable. Polyester can improve quick-drying performance and shape retention, while cotton-polyester blends aim to combine characteristics of both fibres. Other blends may add stretch. Choose according to comfort, climate and care requirements.
What GSM tells you
GSM means grams per square metre and is a measure of fabric weight. A lower GSM fabric is generally lighter, while a higher GSM fabric tends to feel more substantial. GSM does not by itself define quality: fibre, knit structure and finishing still matter.
Inspect stitching and seams
Look for consistent stitching, neatly finished seams and a hem that lies flat. Twisted side seams, loose threads or uneven stitching can indicate weaker construction. Around the neckline, a well-attached rib or binding can help the collar maintain its shape.
Choose fit using measurements
Regular, slim, oversized and relaxed fits can differ significantly. Compare chest width, shoulder width and garment length with a T-shirt you already find comfortable. This is more reliable than assuming the same labelled size will fit identically across products.
Consider colour and print construction
For printed T-shirts, the feel and durability of a design depend on the printing method and care. Turn printed garments inside out when washing if the care label permits, and avoid unnecessary high heat that can affect some prints and fibres.
